I’m Lumi, a musician-turned-web designer, accessibility enthusiast, and mom of a young daughter (now an Archaeology student).
My journey with WordPress began when I transitioned from a career in music to web design. I was a professional musician for many years, and after earning my PhD, I decided it was time to change my career. As a musicologist, I spent many years working at the Publishing House of the National University of Music in Bucharest. Alongside my office duties, I played piano as a choir accompanist, shared my love of music with many children, and even wrote a book about Romanian composer Felicia Donceanu.
My husband introduced me to WordPress, and by the end of 2015, I had started building websites. I dedicated myself to learning and practicing, taking various courses over the years (from Udemy to BrainStation’s online Development), and building new projects all the way along. The most challenging part was overcoming my impostor syndrome — but I managed to quiet it after proving to myself, project by project, that I can confidently handle not just small projects, but also very complex ones. Now, nine years later, I have over 200 websites in my portfolio, having worked in various roles including web designer, web developer, front-end developer, project manager, and designer. Most of my work has been as a freelancer, which gave me the flexibility to be there for my daughter during the years she needed me most.
The WordPress community has been a pillar of support throughout my career change. I fell in love with this community right after attending my first meetup in 2016, and WordPress meetups and WordCamps have been my favorite networking events ever since. I’ve been fortunate to be part of such a welcoming group at meetups, WordCamps Bucharest, and WordCamps Europe. I’ve also had the pleasure of volunteering at several WordCamps, giving back to the community that has supported me so much.
In my personal life, when I’m not creating or learning something new for my job, I enjoy traveling with my family, playing the piano, reading inspiring books, running, or just spending time with my cat and dog.

Călătoria mea cu WordPress a început când mi-am schimbat cariera din muzică în IT. Am fost muzician profesionist pentru mulți ani și după ce mi-am luat doctoratul, mi-am dat seama că e timpul pentru o schimbare in cariera. Ca muzicolog, am lucrat mulți ani în Editura Unviersității Naționale de Muzică. Pe lângă activitățile de birou, am inspirat mulți copii să iubească pianul ca profesoară de pian, am cântat ca pianist-acompaniator cu diverse coruri, am scris o carte despre compozitoarea Felicia Donceanu.
Prima experiență ca utilizator WordPress am avut-o adăugând cărțile editurii UNMB în site. După ce mi-am dat demisia, soțul meu mi-a arătat cum să folosesc o temă și împreună am avut primul client. Am lucrat la început cu mulți clienți muzicieni și mi-am făcut relativ repede un portofoliu care să înspire încredere. Am învățat mult anii care au urmat (cursuri de la Udemy la Development Bootcamp și am lucrat mult. 9 ani mai târziu am peste 200 de site-uri în portofoliu, în diverse roluri (web designer, web developer, front-end developer, project manager, designer). Am lucrat mult ca freelancer, ceea ce mi-a permis să am un program flexibil să fiu aproape de fiica mea în anii când a avut nevoie de mine.
WordPress community a fost un support permanent în noua mea carieră. M-am îndrăgostit de această comunitate odată cu participarea mea la primul meetup in 2016 și de atunci am fost nelipsită de la WordPress mettups, WordCamps Bucharest, WordCamps Europe. Mi-a plăcut să mă implic în activitatea multor evenimente, de aceea am fost bucuroasă să particip și în organizarea WordCamp Romania.
În viața personală, când nu creez un site sau învăț ceva nou, îmi place să călătoresc cu familia, să cânt la pian, să citesc, să alerg sau doar să petrec timp cu animalele noastre de companie.
